Photography has been part of my life since childhood. My first experiences with it came from working alongside my father, with whom I developed black-and-white photographs in our bathroom. Later, I began photographing independently, and in the 1980s I enrolled at the Prague School of Photography, graduating successfully after four years of study.
In the 1990s, I went on several journeys across Northern and Southern Europe and North America. These trips resulted in travel documentaries for Czech Television. Later, together with my colleague and fellow traveller Leoš Drahota, I founded the Moskyt civic association, which focuses on hiking and exploring the regions of the Czech Republic.
I first presented my photographs to the public in 2003 at an exhibition entitled A Ray of Light (Paprsek světla) in Prague. The photographs documented the lives of children at the Paprsek Children’s Centre, which provides care for children with multiple disabilities.
A year later, I held the exhibition Rediscovering Camera Obscura (Znovuobjevená camera obscura), featuring photographs taken with a pinhole camera. I was drawn to this technique for its simplicity and unpredictable results. The image is created without a lens, using only light passing through a tiny aperture. Although the principle is simple, every photograph can bring a surprise and a distinctive atmosphere.
I continue to practise pinhole photography to this day. Alongside taking photographs, I enjoy building and refining my own cameras. I experiment with different designs and explore ways of capturing the world from a different perspective than conventional photography allows.
In addition to my solo exhibitions, in 2004 I also took part in a group exhibition by members of the Moskyt association, The Czech Republic Through Moskyt’s Eyes (Česko okem Moskyta). It offered a view of the Czech countryside and landscape, revealing its understated beauty, picturesque character and traces of human presence.
